The unsung hero of Kannada cinema Sanchari Vijay gets the coveted national award for his touching performance in ‘Nanavanalla Avalu’(on transgenders) Kannada cinema directed by national award winning director BS Lingadevaru. For his subtle and non-stereotypical playing of a woman trapped in a man’s body, portraying a gamut of emotions as s/he struggles through confusion, rejection and humiliation to finally chart her own course with confidence and dignity.

Sanchari Vijay acted ‘Harivu’ (directed by Manjunath Mansore) is also in news because it has bagged the best regional award cinema. Sanchari Vijay has surprised on the one side and made the Karnataka state very proud.

The 62nd National Film Awards 2014 were announced today by the Chairpersons of the three juries on Feature Films, Non Feature Films and Best Writing on Cinema. The Feature Film Central panel was headed by Shri P. Bharathiraja a legend in Tamil cinema and National Film Award winner. The Central panel comprised of 11 members including Chairman, the Non Feature jury was headed by Shri Kamal Swarup and comprised of 7 members including the Chairman. The jury on Best Writing on Cinema was headed by Shri Govind Kumar (Madhan) and comprised of 3 members including Chairperson.

He is the third actor from Karnataka to clinch such a top honor. The first one for best actor was for MV Vasudeva Rao for ‘Chomana Dudi’, then it was Charuhasan who got national award best acting for his performance in ‘Tabarana Kathe’ and now Sanchari Vijay bags the award for Naanavanalla Avalu’ a film based on a novel ‘Sri Vidya’.

Vijay a lecturer in his profession is in the theatre activities for last eight years. He has acted in films like Rangappa Hogbitna, Danda Hididu, Daasavala, Oggarane (3 languages), Harivu in commercial and art form of films.

Vijay gets Rajat Kamal and Rs.50000 plus honor at the national level.
